B-Town biggies plan grand show for Uttarakhand

Living legends of Bollywood will join several GenNow icons to raise funds for Uttarakhand flood victims on Independence Day in Mumbai. The seven- hour- long event, one of the biggest of its kind, is called ' Saath Hain Hum Uttarakhand' and will be held at NSCI Grounds, Worli. Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Kajol and A. R. Rahman have confirmed their participation along with Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana, Abhishek Bachchan, composers Shankar- Ehsaan- Loy and poet- lyricist Prasoon Joshi. Some more big names are likely to be roped in. The Star India initiative expects to raise around Rs.30 crore for the flood victims. The celebrities will perform free of cost at the gala while Star India will donate the entire advertising revenue from the show to non- profit bodies working for the cause. " The noble initiative is an opportunity for the entire Hindi film industry to stand by the very people who have showered us with unconditional love and have made us who we are. We have come together to ease the pain of fellow men who suffered the agonising pain that this unprecedented calamity brought with itself," Amitabh said. Star India CEO Uday Shankar said: " The task of rebuilding is difficult. But it isn't impossible if we join forces. Star India is glad to partner groups that are not only focused on providing immediate relief but are building sustainable solutions to equip people prepare for the future.

The unflinching support of the stars is humbling and in turn will help us extend a helping hand to those in need. " A highlight of the event will be Big B's rendition of the event's anthem, Mera desh , which is based on a poem written by Prasoon Joshi and set to tune by Shankar- Ehsaan- Loy. Rahman is all set to compose a special symphony for the occasion which will be dedicated to the nation. He will also perform some of his inspirational songs. Actor- singer Ayushmann will sing a song he has exclusively composed for the event. A host of familiar TV stars will also perform. "We hope our efforts will sensitise millions of viewers and inspire them to contribute wholeheartedly towards the daunting task of rebuilding the state," said Mukesh Bhatt, eminent film producer and president of Film & Television Producers Guild. Celebs will perform free of cost and Star India will donate ad revenue from show to non- profit bodies working for the cause.
