Melody queen Lata Mangeskhar who turned 82 today will receive the first-ever Hridaynath Award this evening. The award, instituted in the name of her brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar, will be presented annually to a person showing excellence in their field. The Nightingale of India, who has been singing since 1942, is active on Twitter and today too, she reached out to her fans, tweeting on the award. "Namaskar. Mere janamdin par, mere bhai Hridaynath, @hdmangeshkar , ke naam se ek Award institute kiya jaa raha hai. Is puraskaar ka naam "Hridaynath Award" rakha gaya hai, aur is puraskaar ko har saal ek aise vyakti ko diya jayega jo apne kshetra mein aloukik kaam karein. Main is baat ki Hridaynath ko bahut badhaai aur aashirwaad deti hoon, ke uske naam se ek Award shuru kiya jaa raha hai. Mujhe is baat ki bahut khushi hai."
Earlier reports said the award would be presented by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, with celebrated director Yash Chopra as the Guest of Honour. Otherwise, the day promises to be a quiet one for the legendary singer who does not believe in lavish birthday celebrations. "I do not celebrate my birthday in a lavish way. I do not believe in cutting cakes. It will be a family affair...where all family members will be present. My whole day will be spent in accepting wishes from friends and fans worldwide. Later in the day, I will go for Hridaynath Award function," she said.
