The trend of filmmakers gifting hot wheels to star friends for hit guest appearances may have caught on, but filmmaker Karan Johar only wishes he could afford a Ferrari for his Chikni Chameli.
The producer of Agneepath slams reports suggesting that Kat was in for a red hot gift as her song has made the film’s trailers a superhit. “I wish I could gift Katrina (a Ferrari) but I haven’t. She has been really gracious and we are trying to find means to give her due credit for her song.” Kat, too, laughs off the rumours.
KJo, however, believes no previous item song can be compared to this one. “Katrina has never done such a rustic song. But she is exceptionally hard-working, and when I saw the song, my jaw dropped. Now, I can say that there is nothing that she can’t do today. She is the nation’s sweetheart,” he says.
The 39-year-old filmmaker has his hands full with two productions in a month — Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra starrer Ageepath which opens on January 26 and Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor, which releases on February 10. “It is exciting and nerve-wracking time at Dharma. Really loving it,” he says.
Karan maintains that his Angeepath is very different from Mukul Anand’s 1990 original that had Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan. “Our Agneepath is completely different from the original.
Honestly, it would have been detrimental if we would have tried to make the same film and if our characters spoke the same language. We have reinvented Agneepath in our own way. Our Vijay Deenanath Chauhan is more vulnerable and silent than the original.”
He adds, “The villain, Kancha Cheena too is more gritty and evil. The love story between Hrithik and Priyanka is more flamboyant than the love story in the original. And, Rishi Kapoor’s character of Rauf Lala, which was not there in the original, is also a highlight in this one.”
