Movie Review: Diary Of A ButterflyStory: The story revolves around an ambitious girl Gul (Udita Goswani). Her hunger for success makes her come to the city of dreams and follow a path which might not be the right one, but she doesn’t mind it and uses people as stairs to climb and reach to the top. She makes a note of all the little points in a dairy which was gifted to her by her mother, before she left her hometown Jaipur. Later, she realises that while achieving the success she has hurt many people and wants to seek forgiveness. However, comes across the brutal fact that now people have changed, so will Gul continue her arrogant, reckless, social and dreamer attitude or will she change is all about the Diary Of A Butterfly.

Story Treatment:  With the increasing interest of filmmakers in making women oriented films, Dairy Of A Butterfly is intended as a woman focussed drama, however, it fails on both counts. The treatment lacks elasticity as most of the characters are fragmentary and what steals the attention in a very off-putting way, is how a strong headed girl (who can do anything to climb the success ladder) can change her attitude by merely listening to a conversation of her colleagues. Interestingly, this girl doesn’t even bother to consider her parents and friend’s advice generally. Bed scenes are forcefully induced in the script, but don’t look aesthetic.

Star Cast: Udita Goswani, long lost in the industry, makes a comeback with the film and tries to leave an impact, however, most of the times her lifeless expressions are like a strain on your nerves. To be fair, she is likable in small patches, but doesn’t help as most of the cast is just loud and unimpressive. Still wondering what Aryan Vaid's doing in the film. Sofia Hayat capably manages to look unattractive and as far as her acting skills are concerned, it's better not to talk about it. Rati Agnihotri doesn't get much scope.

Direction: Vinod Mukhi fails to make the movie even a decent watch. His intentions might be correct, but don’t reflect when it comes to the final product.  The director couldn’t rise above the plot which is so fragile and at times the loud shots make the movie unwatchable. Justice to a completely self-centered character has also not been carved accurately.

Dialogues/cinematography/music: Dialogues are mediocre and loud music comes down harsh on your ears, as it simply takes away the seriousness from the scenes. Editing is poor, while the lip-sync is not up to the mark, which shows poor dubbing. The choreography is old fashioned and makes it hard to sit through the movie. 3ups and downs: Udita Goswani’s fans (if any) get an opportunity to see her on silver screen after years. If you gather the courage to enter the theatre, it will be difficult for you to find respite. Overall, strictly not recommended.
