Ranbir Kapoor to relaunch his grandfather Raj Kapoor's filmRanbir Kapoor to relaunch his grandfather Raj Kapoor's film: Ranbir Kapoor looks all set to revive his prestigious family banner RK Films. The production house set up by Ranbir's legendary actor-filmmaker grandfather Raj Kapoor in 1948 has been out of action for 12 years now and latest reports suggest the Gen-Now superstar is planning to launch a new film under the banner.

According to sources, Ranbir's dad, Rishi Kapoor, and uncles, Randhir and Rajiv Kapoor, want to let Ranbir take the decisions on reviving the banner. "The brothers want to pass on the RK legacy to Ranbir and let him chalk out plans to kickstart a new home production. Ranbir is a mature guy who has revealed a flair for choosing the right scripts and projects so far and they have the confidence that he can take the right decisions to revamp the banner. A proper announcement will probably be made in the second half of the year," said a source.

"After Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1999, Raj ji's sons-Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv-had mulled over the idea of producing a new film under the banner several times but nothing came out of it. The production house has remained all but shut for over a decade now, but things could change with Ranbir revealing genuine interest in reviving it," said a source.

A few years ago, reports were rife that RK Films would be relaunched with a film starring Kareena Kapoor in a central role but the project had to be shelved owing to the actress's packed date diary. "Kareena has been bagging one big project after the other over the past few years. Relaunch of the RK banner would need a special script and lots of preparation. So, the film kept getting postponed," said the source.

Raj Kapoor's last film as a directorproducer was the blockbuster Ram Teri Ganga Maili in 1985. He passed away three years later. Around the time of his demise, the iconic showman was preparing to start Henna, starring Rishi Kapoor and debutant Zeba Bakhtiar, and the film was ultimately completed by his eldest son Randhir Kapoor.
