I am interested in directors, not actors: Mallika Sherawat

She has now become our desi girl in LA as bold and daring as ever. No amount of criticsim back home seems to detter actor Mallika Sherawat from continuing her jaunts abroad. She chatted with DNA ong distance, hours before hitting the red carpet for the fourth time at Cannes:

This is your fourth time in Cannes. What has the festival come to mean to you?
It’s such an international hub of personalities. You get to meet directors from so many different regions. It’s simply a melting pot of so many film cultures, which is why it gives me immense joy to be a part of this event. Nowadays, cinema has no boundaries at all.

What are your expectations from the festival this year?
This time around I am relaxed. There are no movies to represent, no pressure of interviews, I am just enjoying the whole experience. Furthermore, I am going for the amfAR charity event, the hotspot of all galas.

What’s special about your wardrobe for Cannes this year?
It’s a special dress made by Ali Mahdavi (a Paris based artist, illustrator and photographer). He is an exceptional guy and he works with Jean Paul Gaultier. I am his muse this year, so I am really excited. You remember the time when Madonna walked with Jean Paul Gaultier as his muse — it’s the same feeling.

Have you planned to do anything special in Cannes this time?
Whatever I do some sections of people are never happy. I meet Obama, they are not happy. I walk the red carpet with Jackie Chan, they are still not happy. What do they want me to do? Maybe I should meet God, only then will they be happy, I think.Having said that I really don’t care about pacifying people, you can think whatever you want to. I am what I am.

Any particular Hollywood star you hope to meet there?
I am more into directors than actors. So, many of my favourite directors are going to be here, I can’t wait to meet them. I will get to see the likes of Wes Anderson, David Cronenberg and many more.

Do you plan to catch up with Bollywood actors there?
Why not?...If I bump into them then sure.
