Daisy Irani is one of those silver-screen veterans who started acting when your parents were probably still toddlers. The 60-year-old, who started as a child actor in the ’50s, was last seen in her nephew Sajid Khan’s Housefull (2010). Now, Irani is making a comeback to the silver screen as Boman.

Irani’s mother in niece Farah Khan’s acting debut film, Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi (SFKTNP). Directed by Bela Sehgal, the film has been produced by Eros International and Bhansali Productions. And for the film, Irani was asked to shoot a scene where she was to appear drunk.

However, she went a step further and actually got a little inebriated: “I was exhausted and had some five bottles of beer,” she says, adding, “I don’t usually drink. And I was expecting the shot to wrap up quickly. But it took an entire day. Thankfully, I could hold my alcohol, though the whole unit had fun at my expense.”

Ask her why we don’t see her often in films anymore, and she promptly replies, “That’s because I don’t get good offers anymore. I don’t want to play a mom or grandmom in TV shows. Also, now I don’t feel working is a necessity. My kids take care of me.” Then what made her do SFKTNP? “I really wanted to be part of the film.

It’s a light-hearted time-pass movie. Also, seeing Farah act was great. Finally, usme bhi uske parents se acting ka keeda aa gaya hain (she finally got bitten by the acting bug that bit her parents).”

Irani feels that, even in the future, Farah will be good with character roles: “She won’t get roles like other heroines do. She’ll get meaningful roles. I think she’ll play a vamp well, or even a sweet aunt like the ones in Sooraj Barjatya’s films.”
