The Supreme Court will pronounce its judgement on the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case today. Actor Sanjay Dutt who was held guilty under the Arms Act had escaped conviction under (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Prevention Act) TADA initially. Dutt was awarded an imprisonment of six years by trial court under the Arms Act and was out on bail.  In 2006, the case opened for sentencing all accused involved in the blasts. The period between 2006–2007 saw Dutt spend 7 months in Arthur Road Prison and Pune prison on three occasions for arms offences, although in 2006 Dutt was finally acquitted of any TADA-related offenses but was charged under the illegal possession of arms act.

The blasts that shook not only the 'maximum city' but the entire nation had left over 200 people dead and more than 700 injured. The mammoth trial went on for 14 long years at Arthur Road Prison in Mumbai as over 600 witnesses were examined. In his confession that Dutt had retracted, the actor said mafia don Abu Salem visited his home in January 1993 with Samir Hingora and Hanif Kadawala, proprietors of Magnum Video and allegedly close associates of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Dutt stated they had brought three AK-56 rifles with ammunition, and he kept one for the protection of his family after they received threatening calls during the riots in the city. Dutt was nabbed by police in 1994 from the Mumbai airport. He was charged under the stringent TADA act for conspiracy in the blasts and receiving weapons from Abu Salem.  In November 2006, the court observed that Mr Dutt was not a terrorist and had acquired a gun for self-defence. Will Thursday, i.e. today, when the Supreme Court delivers its verdict, end Dutt's nightmare is yet to be deciphered.
