Pritam Miffed With Reports Of ‘Badtameez Dil’ Being a Copy

Bollywood’s popular music director Pritam has once again been accused of plagiarising music. This time it’s for the groovy number ‘Badtameez Dil’ from the upcoming Dharma Productions film ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. It has been suggested that the tune of his song ‘Badtameez Dil’ is lifted from a popular Bengali song, ‘Ranjana Ami Aar Ashbona’, by Anjan Dutta. Irritated with the reports, Pritam asked the accuser’s to join a music class to learn the different styles of music.

Pritam’s publicist said, “Pritam has conveyed – why don’t people speak to a musician who’ll explain to them the difference between notes and grooves…grooves can be similar in two songs. He’s angry and said, ‘why don’t I do a charity music class to explain to people the difference between the two?’” Backing Pritam, singer Abhijeet said, “I haven’t heard this song but it is not right to only blame the composer. It’s the filmmakers who pressure them.

They say, ‘hume toh ye hi gana chahiye’. The composer agrees because he knows if he doesn’t, someone else will do it.” Pritam has earlier been accused of plagiarising music several times – from Pakistani and Indonesian bands to artists from around the rest of the world have claimed that Pritam has copied their music. Composer Lalit Pandit, of the famous Jatin-Lalit duo said, “There’s no doubt that Pritam copies songs. I haven’t heard ‘Badtameez Dil’ yet, but my composer friends from Kolkata say that this song is a complete lift from Anjan Dutta’s song.”
