Chennai Express (3 Days) 1st Weekend Collection At Box Office

Rohit Shetty's latest directorial venture Chennai Express has received an earth-shattering response at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend. The Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer has set several new records like highest grosser in paid previews, highest grosser on day 1, 2 and 3. This is not all, the movie has become the fastest Rs 100 crore grosser, beating the record of Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger. Being one of the most-awaited Hindi movies of 2013, Chennai Express packed a solid punch in paid previews on Thursday by collecting Rs 6.75 crores nett in the domestic market. This is the highest ever collection at the Indian Box Office. With this, the Rohit Shetty-directed film smashed the previous record of Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots, which had raked in Rs 2.7 crores from the paid previews.Chennai Express, which had huge amount of advance ticket booking for the first weekend, released in 3,500 screens on August 9, which was the Eid holiday. Cashing on this festive season, the film registered 100% occupancy in both single screens and multiplexes on its opening day. It collected Rs 33.12 crores nett at the Indian Box Office on the first day, beating the previous record of Ek Tha Tiger, which was the biggest opener with its collection Rs 32.92 crores nett.

Ek Tha Tiger, which had crossed Rs 100 crore mark in just five days, had dropped more than 50% with its collection reaching Rs 14.50 crores nett on the second day. The business of Chennai Express also dipped on Saturday, but it was just 15%. The Shahrukh Khan starrer collected Rs 28.05 crores nett at the Indian Box Office on the second day, taking its domestic total to Rs 67.92 crores nett. Chennai Express has picked up well on Sunday and did much better than its opening day business. The figures of its third day are still being compiled. As per early trends, the movie has collected Rs 32.50 crores nett on its third day. With this, it has raked in a total of Rs 100.42 crores nett at the Indian Box Office in the three-day first weekend. It is a monstrous weekend for the film.
