The alleged rape and physical abuse of a 23-year-old model by the actor once again brings to light the dark underbelly of our film industry. Inder Kumar could be in deep trouble. The actor is already in the docks for alleged rape and torture of a 23-year-old model. Now medical examinations carried out on the woman not only indicate rape but also injury marks on her body, indicating physical abuse. This matches the FIR lodged by the woman at the Versova police station against the actor in which she had claimed that she was hit with a beer bottle by Kumar. This flies in the face of the actor's claim that the sex was consensual.

This incident once again proves that behind the glitz and glamour of Bollywood lies a crevice which is dark and where lies the real villains. Rape, physical intimidation, domestic violence, drug abuse, they are all there, lying hidden from public eye. Being a celebrity has its own perks and at times they get away scot free, their onscreen persona coming to their aid. Till the other day, words like molestation and physical abuse were spoken of in hushed tones. Issues like casting couch would be swept away under the carpet, but not anymore. With more and more cases coming to the forefront, and victims showing the courage to report such incidents, people are getting to see and hear about the dark underbelly of Bollywood.

The incident also brought the Shiney Ahuja case in the limelight. The promising actor, too, was booked for rape and sentenced to seven years in prison. He is now currently out on bail and is known to have resumed acting. Kumar has now been booked under Section 376 (rape), 324 (causing grievous hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Following this incident the film career of the actor, who has worked in supporting roles in over two dozen Hindi films including Wanted, Maa Tujhhe Salaam and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi now hangs in the balance. Police sources said the injuries include cigarette burn marks, bites and stab marks left behind by a fork. Police said medical evidence corroborates the allegations of rape made by the woman. The model is currently recuperating at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai. The model told the police and the doctors that on April 23 Kumar had called her to his apartment on the pretext of giving her a role in a film.

When she turned up she was locked in one of the rooms. Kumar then allegedly sexually assaulted her over the next two days and even physically abused her. The model claimed that she managed to escape from Kumar's flat and fled to her sister's house from where she informed the police the next day. Police sources said Kumar has agreed that they had sex but denied having raped the model. The actor's wife, meanwhile, defended her husband. Pallavi claimed the model had been relentlessly pursuing her husband. She had also been sending lewd messages on his phone. She claimed that she had a fight with her husband over the issue and left their house with their child and went to her mother's house in the same apartment. "For two days she was in the apartment and was seen cheerfully going out of the apartment to buy alcohol and order food. If she was raped in captivity, could she have done all this?" Pallavi asked.
