She was apparently in line to play a scientist who would be the hero's new love interest. Priyanka described herself as India's answer to Lois Lane but, despite the swirl of speculation, neither the role nor the film materialised. Instead, Zack Snyder was brought on board to helm a reboot of the franchise that's due out in June 2013.

'Bollywood's Lois Lane' Priyanka Chopra on new action movie Don 2

The actress has gone to appear in several films since then and will next be seen on screen in the action sequel Don 2, released in 2D and 3D on December 21 by Reliance Entertainment. Priyanka talks about her involvement in the upcoming movie in a new Q&A which is included below. Don 2 is a follow-up to director Farhan Akhtar's 2006 film Don, which starred Shahrukh Khan alongside Priyanka and won Best Asian Film at the Neuchâtel International Fantasy Film Festival as well as garnering five other nominations at other awards.

Returning to directing after a five-year gap, Farhan Akhtar once again directs Khan and Chopra, who are this time joined by Om Puri, Lara Dutta, Boman Irani and Kunal Kapoor. In the first film, a simple man (Vijay, played by Khan) from the city of Mumbai was recruited by a police officer to masquerade as the Don, the leader of an international gang of smugglers. But things went wrong, the officer was killed and Vijay was on his own, with only his lover (Roma, played by Chopra) and a lame ex-con artist to help him to prove his innocence.

In the upcoming sequel, Don, having conquered the Asian underworld, has his sights set on European domination. In his way are the bosses of the existing European underworld and all law enforcement agencies. The action shifts from Kuala Lumpur to Berlin as Don must avoid assassination or arrest, whichever comes first, in order for his plan to succeed.

Here's what Priyanka Chopra had to say: How is your role in Don 2 different to your role in Don 1?
Priyanka: Don 2 is a cool role for me. It's an action film of another level in Bollywood. I am angrier in this one and I've done a lot of fist-fighting that I didn't do too much of in the earlier Don. I went through intense rehearsals for my action scenes, with guidance from Farhan and Shah Rukh who often pulled my leg.

I don't play a damsel in distress this time and so missed all the dance and frolics I've been doing in my other films. Don 2 is one of those rare movies where I have to be serious all the time. I can't even sport my big smile. But that's what's good about this film, it makes me do things I've never done. That's one advantage of playing a cop but it's got the disadvantages I just mentioned.

What is your relationship like with Don? Don is unpredictable, you can never tell what his next move is going to be. He is one bad guy you can't mess with. He is cold-blooded and such people are really dangerous to deal with. Roma has such a relationship with him, both hot and cold as she is hellbent on taking her revenge and wants Don at any cost. It's a cat-and-mouse chase.

What is Don 2's unique selling point? Don 2 has redefined slick in Bollywood. It takes suspense to another level too. The music is also rich and you will get into the groove of the songs once you see the film. Don 2 is Farhan's best work so far.

What sets Shahrukh apart from any other star? Shahrukh Khan can live up to anything. He is a man who believes in challenges at this point in his career. He puts in more than one needs to put in his movies. There are very few actors who are like that. I feel Don 2 is his best action movie.
