And the award goes to…

Who will bell the worst? The worst of Bollywood will gets its due this February. The Ghantas, quite like the Razzies, that reward the most horrible films and performances of the year were initiated in 2011.

“While there are good movies produced every year, there are several that just want us to tear our hair out and demand refunds from the producers. There are more than a dozen film awards to reward the good films but how many to reward the worst of Bollywood,” asks Prashant D. Rajkhowa, who co-founded The Ghantas with film critic Karan Anshuman.

“The Ghanta Award was created as a means to give back to these films, to give back to these filmmakers to make them understand that they needed to try harder,” he adds. This year's jury comprising film critics Karan Ashuman, Rajeev Masand, Sahil Rizwan, Mihir Fadnavis and the anonymous Moi Fight Club have already announced the nominees in 13 categories including the worst actor and actress, worst couple, worst song, worst film and worst director.

How were the films chosen? “Movies that made you want to kill yourself will obviously walk into the list,” explains Prashant. “In order that there is a difference between ‘a bad movie' and simply ‘a movie I did not like,' we have a jury of film critics, newspaper writers, TV hosts and bloggers to decide the nominees in each category.”

The films nominated for worst film this year are “Ra.One”, “Bodyguard”, “Ready” and “Mausam”. To see the other nominations and categories, log on to theghantas.com and vote. “People can vote for the Ghantas 2012 using their Facebook or Twitter accounts. The ceremony will be in Mumbai in February and will be streamed live on the Internet like last year,” says Prashant.
