After months of rumours, denials and speculation Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan kept the date that had originally been announced by Saif's mother Sharmila Tagore. The evening of October 16 saw a grand nikaah ceremony at Mumbai's Taj Mahal Palace hotel attended by more family and friends than the previous, more private, functions had been.

Saif Kareena wedding, Kapoors outnumbered the Khans

And almost everywhere you looked was a Kapoor. Bollywood's most sprawling dynasty turned out in droves to see Kareena married. Uncles Rishi and Rajiv, aunts Reema and Ritu, cousins Ranbir and Armaan and aunt-in-law Neetu, who's presence signals the end of a long-standing feud between her and Kareena's mother Babita, led the charge of the Kapoor brigade.

Kareena's cousins from Delhi Nitasha and Nikhil Nanda, and Nikhil's wife Shweta Bachchan Nanda and son Agastye were also present. As was a rarely seen Kapoor, Shashi's son Kunal. Matriarch Krishna Raj Kapoor was helped in by Kareena's father Randhir.

Even distantly related Kapoors made up numbers - Anil, Sunita and daughter Sonam. The bride's elder sister Karisma, who is a Kapoor by birth and a Kapur by marriage, was, of course, closely involved in festivities. In contrast, the Khans were thin on the ground. Saif's mother Sharmila and sisters Soha and Saba held fort for the baraat.

Saif's 16-year-old daughter Sara and 11-year-old son Ibrahim were the vanguard. Soha's beau Kunal Khemu, though not a Khan, was the man-in-charge from Saif's family. Other Khans spotted were no relation to the family - Shah Rukh and Gauri, and Fardeen.

The numbers may have been stacked in favour of the party-loving Kapoor khandaan, but that's likely to change at today's family dinner being held in Pataudi Palace. 36 members of the extended Pataudi family are reported to be travelling to Saif's royal home from London, Islamabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
