Aishwarya and Abhishek's daughter daughter Aaradhya is celebrating her first birthday today and the Bachchans have organised a private birthday party for her. On Diwali, grandpa Amitabh drove home a red-and-black BMW Mini Cooper that Aishwarya and Abhishek have reportedly gifted their daughter as a first birthday gift.

With Mumbai metropolis on tenterhooks as Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray is fighting for life, and thousands of Shiv Sainiks camping out outside Matoshri, the Bachchans have decided to keep the birthday celebration a low-key affair.   The entire  Bachchan family had gone to pick the special birthday gift for Aaradhya.

"Time just flies and now Aaradhya will turn one year old. For her first birthday we plan to make it a private and family affair. Only close family and my parents will attend the birthday celebration,"  Aishwarya Rai  Bachchan said, while chatting with the media on Nov 14 Children's Day.  

The Bachchans have been very protective about Aaradhya so far, and only recently did the paparazzi get to snap the baby at an event meant to honour Ash. Aaradhya made her first public appearance on her mother's birthday, when Ash was being conferred with a civilian honour by the French government.

"First birthdays are generally special for the mothers because they spend so much time with the little ones and take care of them," proud papa Abhishek said. The Bachchans celebrated a grand Diwali this year since it was Aaradhya's first.  

The gala, held at the Bachchan bungalow Jalsa in suburban Mumbai, was attended by the Bollywood A-list. Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna, Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu, Sonali Bendre, Raveena Tandon, Rishi Kapoor, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Prakash Jha, Kunal Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Tusshar Kapoor and Amrita Singh were among the guests spotted at the bash.
