As a former Miss India and Miss World and a Bollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra is one of India’s highest-profile celebrities. Now, she’s hoping to bring her talents to America – but as a singer, not an actress. Late last year, working with the same producer, management team and record label as Lady Gaga, Chopra released “In My City,” a dance single that has already sold about 200,000 copies to fans in India, according to the label, Inter scope Records. This year, the label will release full-length album in the United States. In an on-camera interview, Chopra spoke to the WSJ about what it will take to become a pop star in America and to get existing fans to take her seriously as a recording artist.
