Sonam Kapoor buys film rights for untitled Anuja Chauhan novel

Sonam Kapoor has bought the film rights for an unnamed novel by Anuja Chauhan. The actress explained that the strong female characters were what compelled her to buy the rights to the book. Kapoor told: "The idea of taking a book and turning pages [that] I remember has been the biggest high for me. So, it was imperative for me to play something like this before I get too old. It is about modern Indian women who exist in reality, but not in Hindi cinema." The Bhaag Milkha Bhaag star continued by saying that she is proud to have played "real women" in her films.

"I could play a little bit of [a] modern Indian girl in Delhi 6 and Aisha," Kapoor added. "Both were Delhi girls. One was from Chandni Chowk while the other was from Defence Colony, and both girls exist." The unnamed book will be the third film adaptation of a novel for Kapoor, whose film Aisha was based on Jane Austen's Emma. Kapoor recently claimed that women have often been objectified in Bollywood because it is a largely male-dominated industry. The actress's father - Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol star Anil Kapoor - said that he was proud of how his daughter had approached her film career, and that she would not settle for being just "a decorative element" in a film.
