Mallika Sherawat summoned to court for obscenity

Summons were issued to actor Mallika Sherawat by a Vadodara court seeking her presence on April 20 in an obscenity case. Narendra Tiwari, the then president of Baroda Bar Association, had filed a complaint against Sherawat and the owners of J W Marriot Hotel, Mumbai, in January 2007 over an allegedly obscene performance on new year's eve program, seeking action under section 294 of Indian Penal Code.

Tiwari told reporters that the court asked police to investigate, but police later submitted a report saying there was no case. Tiwari then moved sessions court. Sherawat, meanwhile, moved Gujarat High Court seeking quashing of the case, but, according to Tiwari, the High Court rejected her petition and directed the Vadodara court to examine the matter again. Following this magistrate issued summons to the actor and the hotel owners, he added.
