Remake of Zanjeer will have to cross another obstacle if it has to see the light of the day. Almost a year after they first brought up the issue with the producers of Zanjeer - new as well as original - writer duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar have now approached Bombay High Court. Salim and Javed, writer of the 1973 trend setting movie, have also filed an application in their Suit, seeking urgent relief in form of stay on release of the new version. The suit filed through law firm Ashok Purohit and Co., does not mention any amount that the writer duo is seeking as compensation. It simply says that the new version cannot be made without their consent as they hold the copyright of the 'literary work.' The writers say that Prakash Mehra was allowed to produce the movie on their script only once and any reproduction of the story would need their permission.

New hurdle for Zanjeer remake

Just last week, another HC judge-Justice R D Dhanuka had given a goahead to the production as well as release of the film. But, the dispute before Justice Dhanuka was only between the three Mehra brothers - Amit Mehra on one side and Sumeet and Puneet on the other. Salim--Javed were not party to that litigation. Citing Justice Dhanuka's April 3 judgement, Senior Advocate Ravi Kadam, representing the writer duo before Justice S J Kathawalla, told the court on Monday that the parties involved had virtually accepted their contention. Incidentally, Salim--Javed have filed the case on April 3. Advocate Birendra Saraf, representing the producers of the new version, sought a djournment to file a reply.AfterwhichKadamsoughtastay on release of the movie.

However, Saraf informed the court that due to some pending work, the movie couldn't be released for at least 4 more weeks. Justice Kathawalla recorded this statement and adjourned the case for April 17. Meanwhile... Dutt dubs in home studio Sanjay Dutt is doing everything he can to fulfil his commitments. As the day to surrender dawns near, he is busy finishing incomplete assignments. And to fast track the process, he has installed a studio in his apartment to dub the films he is working on. And Apoorva Lakhia has already started the dubbing Z a nje e r, where Dutt essays the role of Pran from the original. An actor, who is a close friend of Sanjay said: "When my child has fever or I have a fight with my wife, I find it hard to shoot. But hats off to Dutt. However, heartbroken or shattered he is, he has not allowed his crisis to affect anyone. — Mehul S Thakkar
