Star Kids Who Didn’t Make it in Bollywood

People assume that the children of movie stars have it easy in the film industry. We do not want to argue with that fact, but this advantage usually translates into two different paths: The first is where the star kid struggles to break through, and within a few movies his or her career fizzles out and he gets into the vast labyrinth that is movie production. The second is where the star kid is assertive and becomes a star to shine with the brightest in the industry. Even those born with a silver spoon and into a filmy family face the uncertainty of success. Here’s a look at star kids who had everything but failed to make it in Bollywood:

Star Kids Who Didn’t Make it in Bollywood

Uday Chopra
Possibly the most high-profile name on this list, Uday Chopra’s Bollywood graph has been a choppy downward slope. Launched in “Mohabbatein,” he tried his luck long and hard but couldn’t find the name and fame his illustrious pedigree should have handed him on a platter. “Mohabbatein” was a massive hit, as it starred Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, but the bevy of young actors, including Chopra, were largely unremarkable. Chopra’s career did not nosedive, but gradually descended downwards. The “Dhoom” series, where he plays Abhishek Bachchan’s sidekick, is possibly the only consistent movie success he has tasted. Chopra was last in the news for being Nargis Fakhri’s boyfriend.

Fardeen Khan
Son of the original “Pathan of Bollywood,” Feroz Khan, Fardeen was launched amid much fanfare with “Prem Agan.” That launch was as disastrous as the plot and Fardeen’s career as a lead actor finished even before it began. The luck of being a star child got him minor, harmless roles in a clutch of multi-starrers, keeping him in the public eye. While publicity is important to succeed as a popular actor, Fardeen was thrust into the limelight when he was held for cocaine possession. Though never found guilty, this was enough to make an already disinterested audience want to avoid his movies further.

Harman Baweja
To look like Hrithik Roshan would be a dream for anyone but a Bollywood actor. Harman Baweja surely agrees and probably wishes he could trade those looks for the acting talent Roshan possesses. Launched in the big-budget “Love Story 2050,” Baweja crashed and burned at the box office in his debut film. His next two movies, “Victory” and “What’s Your Raashee?,” also bombed. Allegedly dating Priyanka Chopra, he was dumped like a heavy rock when she apparently realized his Bollywood career was going nowhere.

Mahaakshay Chakraborty
Mithun Chakraborty is a hard act to follow as son Mahaakshay has probably realized. Launched as Mimoh Chakraborty in “Jimmy,” Mahaakshay’s first foray into Bollywood ended in disaster. As did his second. His third outing, “Haunted 3D,” a horror multi-starrer was a commercial hit but his next two movies, “Loot” and “Enemmy,” both flopped. While we totally support new talent entering the industry and stand by all those who persevere, perhaps Mahaakshay needs to find a way to channel his creativity other than through cinema.
